The Norwood Vipers needed a victory tonight but it wasn't meant to be. The Whitby Dunlops played their most complete game of the last few and controlled much of the play as they doubled the shots on goal over Mar72010_2_566the Vipers and came away with a very deserving 5-2 win..

Norwood had notched their first goal at the 2:32 mark of the first period on a goal by former Dunnie, Ryan Toms. The Vipers took a few penalties in a row midway through the period but the Dunlops couldn't cash in on the the opportunity. There was alot of quick passes by both teams in order to get the puck out of the defensive zone to create some scoring chances at the other end. A late rally as the period was winding down resulted in a tying goal being scored by Colin Baker with only 21 seconds left in the period.

Mar72010_3_566The second period saw the Dunlops shorthanded for alot of the time. They were assessed all five penalties that were called during the second period. Some solid net-minding and great defensive plays by both teams held everyone off the scoresheet for the time being.

The third period was all Whitby. Steve Birch started the third period scoring and fellow team mates Adam VanDam, Ron Baker and newcomer Andrew Gibbons would follow suit and help earn the win. Anthony Marshall was tending goal for the Dunlops this evening and stopped 16 of the 18 shots he faced.
